Overview
The Student Government Association (SGA) exists to serve many of the needs of the student body of Georgia State University. Some of the purposes of the SGA, as outlined in the constitution of the student body of Georgia State, are to provide a responsive forum for student concerns and interests; to actively seek out, investigate and resolve student complaints and concerns; to supply students with services, programs and activities to meet their needs and interests; and to be the official voice of students in academic, institutional and campus affairs. The SGA consists of three branches of government: executive branch, legislative branch and judicial branch (Student Judicial Board).
Executive Branch
The Executive Branch serves as the central coordinating committee and enforces the legislation, policy and resolutions of the SGA. The Executive Branch consists of the President, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Vice President of Budget and Finance, Vice President of Public Relations, Vice President of Student Life, Vice President of Student Services, and Chief Justice of the Student Judicial Board (ex.officio).
Legislative Branch (Senate)
The legislative branch of the SGA actively voices the opinions of Georgia State students regarding student life, services and academics. The primary responsibility of the Legislative Branch is to pass all legislation and approve expenditures necessary for operation of the SGA on behalf of the student body. There are five standing committees within the Legislative Branch: Academic Affairs, Budget and Finance, Public Relations, Student Life and Student Services. The Legislative Branch consists of approximately 27 senators who are elected each year during spring semester. Vacancies are filled by the SGA President with approval from the Senate.
Judicial Branch (Student Judicial Board)

The Student Judicial Board (SJB) is the judicial branch of the Student Government Association. The jurisdiction of the SJB is explained in the SGA Constitution and the Board Bylaws. The board consists of 16 members who serve as justices. Students wishing to apply to serve as board members should contact the Student Judicial Board Advisor in the Office of the Dean of Students (300 Student Center). Participation on the Student Judicial Board provides students with a wealth of leadership development opportunities.
The Student Judicial Board is student based, educationally grounded and one of the four routes a charged student (or student organization) may choose to have an alleged code of conduct violation case heard. Alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct should be reported in writing to the Office of the Dean of Students. Incident report forms for reporting violations of the Student Code of Conduct may be obtained at www2.gsu.edu/~wwwdos/incident.html.
