Getting Started at Georgia State

Alternative Spring Break is known as Panther Break Away, a program that places teams of Georgia State University students in communities to engage in service and experiential learning during their spring break. Students perform short term service projects and strive to address social issues such as literacy, poverty, hunger, homelessness and environmental awareness.

Day in The Park is an annual event in Hurt Park that includes team volleyball, games, music, dancing and food. Come join in on the fun!

Family Weekend is a weekend when parents and family members are invited to campus to share in food, fun, and family. From social events to educational sessions, families have an opportunity to sample the Georgia State University experience as they share in an exciting day of activities with their loved ones.

Freshman Convocation is a freshman class induction ceremony, during which Georgia State University’s President formally welcomes and inducts the new freshman class and initiates the reciting of a class pledge. This kickoff event of Panther Welcome Week is followed by a reception for all new students.

Homecoming is the ultimate showcase of Panther pride. This annual series of programs features alumni activities, a parade, the athletic games of the Georgia State men’s and women’s basketball teams and much more. The entire Georgia State community is encouraged to show “true blue” spirit during this exciting week of programs.

Into The Streets is a month-long program series that introduces and exposes students to thoughtful community service opportunities. It provides participants a chance to go “into the streets” of Atlanta to make a difference in the community.

Leadership Conclave is an annual leadership conference in which speakers present motivational and informative workshops designed to assist students and student organizations in developing lifelong individual and organizational leadership skills.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Week is a tribute to the life and contributions of the famous civil rights leader. This week includes activities such as community service projects, visits to the King Center and various programs to promote dialogue around social justice issues.

Panther Prowl is a unique Friday program that provides students an opportunity to join their peers in a fun and interactive atmosphere. Featured activities include comedians, movies and novelty entertainment such as laser tag, candle making and digital caricatures.

Panther Welcome Week is a collaborative program series provided for new and returning students during the first two weeks of fall classes to assist in the campus transition and create a welcoming campus environment. Panther Welcome begins with Freshman Convocation and then leads into two weeks of fun and excitement for the entire Georgia State community.
