Overview
The Office of African-American Student Services and Programs (OAASS&P)
serves to continually support and enhance student academic and leadership
development at the University. In so doing OAASS&P contributes to the
University’s vision of preparing students with the necessary knowledge and skills
to be effective contributors to society. OAASS&P’s mission is to promote quality
services and programs related to the retention, progression and graduation of
African-American students at Georgia State by advocating for academic success,
degree attainment, cultural awareness, civic awareness and co-curricular
involvement.
The office serves as the liaison among the Division of Student Affairs and
academic departments on topics related to African American students, faculty,
staff and alumni. As the office motto — “Friendship, Academics, Culture,
Excellence, Success, (FACES) for you” — implies, OAASS&P staff provide
universitywide services and support programming that sets the foundation for
academic success; cultural enrichment; racial, ethnicity and diversity awareness;
leadership training; organizational development; and community involvement.
