Overview
The Margaret A. Staton Office of Disability Services exists to provide persons with disabilities the equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the programs and services offered through Georgia State. The office encourages students to be independent and autonomous individuals who know their learning strengths and develop appropriate coping strategies for academic success.
Services Provided
- Determine eligibility for services by reviewing documentation to determine the existence of a disability and defining the functional limitations of said disability.
- Establish appropriate accommodations by identifying modifications, which mitigate the functional limitations without undermining the essential functions of the job, class, program or service.
- Empower the individual with a disability to communicate these accommodations their supervisor/professor in an appropriate manner.
- When necessary, advocate that such accommodations are made in a timely and effective manner.
- Teach and encourage students to use strategies and adaptive equipment, which mitigate the functional limitations of their disability.
Student Activities, Clubs and Organizations Disability Policy
