Overview

Health Services, also known as the Georgia State University Clinic, offers diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of illnesses, both acute and chronic, through the skills of a full-time family physician as well as a full time family nurse practitioner.

Eligibility: The clinic provides care for all currently registered students.

Fees: The health fee (usually paid with the Student Activity Fee during
egistration) covers unlimited free office visits for the semester with one of the nurse practitioners or doctors, by appointment and by walk-in. The fee DOES NOT COVER medical equipment, over-the-counter medications, dispensary prescriptions, immunization vaccines, laboratory or other diagnostic tests, supplies, physicals and PAP visits. Payment is required at the time of service. Feel free to ask for pricing of these items.

Insurance: The student health insurance plan for 2008-2009 will be managed through Pearce & Pearce, Inc. insurance agency. Details are available at www.pearceandpearce.com or at 1-888-622-6001. Georgia State students may select a primary care provider within the Pearce & Pearce network of providers, or use the Georgia State Clinic as their primary care provider. Insurance billing for this plan is provided by the Georgia State Clinic, but no other insurance plans are
accepted.

Minor emergencies can be handled when the doctor is in the office, but the clinic staff cannot deal with life-or-limb-threatening emergencies. For true emergencies, please dial 911 for an ambulance and then call the Campus Police for assistance. The police can stay with you until the ambulance arrives and can help to direct the ambulance to your location.

Board of Regents Immunization Requirements

Immunization requirements have been revised by the Board of Regents. All new students attending Georgia State for the first time must show proof of a Tetanus/Diphtheria shot within the last 10 years. MMR, Varicella and Hepatitis B are also required based on year and place of birth (in addition to the Meningitis Law affecting students who reside in university housing). See the full details at www.gsu.edu/health, at the link for Board of Regents immunization information. Unless complete and accurate student immunization records are submitted to the Immunization Office before the first day of late registration, holds will be placed on student accounts to prevent class withdrawal and registration until the requirements are satisfied. For a downloadable copy of the current Certificate of Immunization, see the Georgia State clinic website at www.gsu.edu/health/.
