Student Activity Fee
The student activity fee is collected for the purpose of supporting programs and services in all aspects of student life. The vitality and diversity of programming supported by the student activity fee greatly enhances student life at Georgia State University and is a major factor in the retention of students and their satisfaction with the University. These programs and services would not be possible without the fee, as state tax revenues are prohibited from being used for most of the purposes supported by the fee.
Programs supported by the fee are student-centered with students as the primary participants or beneficiaries and, in most cases, the primary organizers. Fee funded organizations encourage student self-governance through student leadership development and often form a joint partnership with students, staff, and faculty, thus enhancing the quality of the educational experience.
The Student Activity Fee Committee allocates a portion of the student activity fee to particular categories of interest through six “fee councils”, as well as a portion to the various colleges, who then distribute funding to groups within their respective college. The fee councils cover the areas of
student government, programs board, the arts, diversity programs, student media and university-wide programs.
