Overview

The Office of Undergraduate Studies offers special programs designed to increase student success, emphasize student-centered learning, provide academic services and develop student community involvement.

Programs, Courses and Services Include:

  • Freshmen Learning Communities (FLC) Program: offers students integrated learning, small classes and orientation to Georgia State.
  • Registration and Advisement Services: provides assistance to FLC students.
  • GSU 1010 New Student Orientation Course: serves as the anchor course for each FLC.
  • Atlanta-Based Learning Program: promotes opportunities for engaged learning and civic engagement in the Atlanta community.
  • Latin American and Hispanic Student Outreach and Services: supports student organizations, activities and events that celebrate Latino and Hispanic heritages.
  • Scholarship Services: sponsors University Scholarship Day for incoming freshmen, ongoing scholarship information sessions for currently enrolled students (e-mail scholarships@gsu.edu for more details), University Scholars Assistantships, and a variety of services for Presidential, Berner and Goizueta Scholars living in Honors Housing at the University Commons.
  • Perspectives Courses: oversees the approval and renewal of all Pers 2001 and 2002 courses.
  • Supplemental Instruction Program: holds teaching sessions for students in targeted courses in the general education core curriculum.

Student Involvement Opportunities

  • Annual Freshmen Learning Community Mixer: a special event held every fall semester.
  • National Society of Collegiate Scholars: a national organization serving students who hold academic honors in their respective universities.
  • The Georgia State Undergraduate Research Conference (GSURC): celebrates undergraduate research by sponsoring an annual conference to showcase original scholarship from students in all disciplines, featuring posters, papers, artistic displays, and artistic performances.
