Overview
The University is served by three libraries: the University Library, the College of Law Library and the Alpharetta Center Library.
The University Library occupies two buildings, North and South, linked by a four-story bridge. The first two floors of Library North and the second floor bridge house a Learning Commons where a variety of services are provided. The library holds more than 1.5 million volumes and provides access to nearly 20,000 journals, magazines and newspapers in electronic and print format. Networked computer workstations and a variety of study environments including individual, quiet and group study areas are located throughout the library. The library’s Special Collections Department archives unique and rare historical materials in seven subject areas. Collections are planned to meet the wide-ranging needs of undergraduate students and the specialized research needs of graduate students and faculty members.
Electronic research resources can be found on the library’s website. These include: GIL, the library’s online catalog; the GIL Universal Catalog, a database of University System of Georgia library catalogs; over 350 general and subject specific databases for periodical article citations and full text; an electronic journal locator for full text of journals; and instructional materials. Most e-resources are accessible off campus with a Campus ID.
Library Transformation
The Library Transformation was a comprehensive renovation of the University Library, completed in early 2008. The library now features a Learning Commons, which provides research and technology support, numerous group study rooms, and four bridges between the buildings that provide light-filled study spaces. The project was funded in part by a student fee.
