Assignment One: Integrating Technology for Health and Physical Education Based on Selected Georgia Technology (draft), Grade Specific Standards

" As a catalyst to change in classroom practice, learning technology can help educators promote active and participatory student learning. The key to success isn't in the computers, probeware , graphing calculators or access to networks and the Internet. The key is liberated educators, whose understanding and creative use of technology can help them to achieve undreamed-of levels of excellence for themselves and for their students."
                                                                            Lowell Milken

The first assignment of the Cobb County Technology In-service for Elementary H.P.E. educators challenges each participating teacher to review all technology standards for a selected grade level (1st-5th) which appear in the draft of the Georgia Technology Standards; read the article, "Critical Issue: Using Technology to Improve Student Achievement" and answer several questions specific to the article.  Completion of these activities will ready participating teachers to later create learning applications based on 7 Georgia Technology standards selected for specific grade levels.
Teachers are to individually post their answers to the following questions under the "section for teacher comments" provided for their particular school. Postings are due by midnight, January 29, 2001. Postings should be limited to no more than 150 words.

1. Briefly describe the model of "integrated technology-supported learning". From the Georgia
Technology Standards for your selected grade level, identify (by topic and number) three standards
which exemplify this model. You do not have to write out each standard.

2. What are the four major functions of technology? From the Georgia Technology Standards for your
selected grade level, identify (by topic and number) two standards which exemplify two of these
functions you believe are most appropriate for your selected grade level. You do not have to write
    out each standard.

3. As you introduce technology into your class, what changes might you expect to see or experience?

4. From the list of "basic skill standards" for your selected grade level, select two (by number) that
you believe are most appropriate for your selected grade level and briefly support your choice.

The 7 standards that you identify above will be the standards that will guide the student applications
you create for subsequent assignments. You are encouraged to read each others comments.
