Introduction:

Want to have fun?  Want the entire school to be involved?  Join the nation in exercising on
May 2, 2001 at 10:00 a.m.  The event is Project A.C.E.S. (All Children Exercising Simultaneously).  The stage is set.  The music is ready.  Let's begin.

Task:

To prepare for the activity so that everyone in the school will exercise together in an
organized event for 15 minutes.

Process:

1.

Needed Items:
  • Pre-selected students to choreograph and lead the exercises
  • Willing participants (for school wide involvement)
  • Designated large exercise area outside
  • Closed Circuit TV system in all classrooms
  • Music
  • Video Camera
  • Digital Camera
  • Microphone(s) for voice projection

2.

A preselected number of students will decide on the exercises to be used
and will obtain approval from the P.E. teachers.  The exercises will be choreographed to music.
3. For Everyone Outside:
The students will gather at their designated area.  Classes stay with their classroom teacher in the area.  Preselected students will take their places in preparation of conducting the activity.
For Everyone Inside:
Each Classroom will tune in 5 minutes before the activity is to begin.  Preselected students will take their places in preparation of conducting the activity.
4. When everyone has gathered outside in their specific area or the closed circuit TV's are turned on, the designated teacher will "welcome all" and explain that this is a national event and the importance of exercise, particularly in youth and adolescence, and why the activity is taking place at this time.  Cameras will be used to take video and still photographs of the students performing the activity.

Everyone will be reminded to track their heart rate (take at the beginning, during and after the exercise) and to remember their heart rate target zone.  It will be stressed that everyone is to warm-up, do the aerobic exercise and then cool down and stretch as previously instructed.

5. Activity Ends.  The designated teacher "Thanks everyone" for participating and reemphasizes exercising importance.

Evaluation:

The students will participate in the pre-selected exercises that promote health and fitness.  The video tape and pictures taken will display the participants involvement.

Conclusion:
Pictures and video tape will be submitted to the local media outlets.  Students will be able to view the activity on the designated date.  A discussion will follow at that time.  This allows the students to reflect from the  actual day of participating and the viewing of the video tape and pictures.
