INTRODUCTION

In our society many people because of busy schedules and a variety of other reasons, rely on fast food restaurants as their primary source of sustenance. Good or bad there are many to choose from and each has its good points and bad points. The object of this web quest is to identify the potential dangers related to poor nutrition and to make personal lifestyle changes based on research and credible information.

TASK

In this hypothetical situation it will be assumed that the fast food restaurant is the only source of food available to three individuals. You will make calculations and recommendations for these individuals based on the information available to you through this exercise.

Sub-task #1. Subject #1.   Go to the fast food link at http://www.cyberdiet.com.  Go to the Fast Food Quest and try to pick the most nutritious meals for both lunch and dinner and attempt to keep both meals under 2000 calories for the day.

Sub-task #2. Subject #2.  Go to the same fast food link. For Subject #2 select the most non-nutritious (in your opinion (no caloric limit) meals for both lunch and dinner.

Sub-task #3 Subject #3. You are subject #3. Go to the same fast food link. Pick your favorite
meal for lunch and dinner.

PROCESS

Chart the results of these three individuals for a typical day using the following categories:

Based on your findings identify the potential Nutritional Disorders that may result if these diets
are maintained over a long (several months) period of time.

Using the Food Guide Pyramid (http://www.ganesa.com/food/index.html) and the USDA Recommendations www.runnersurvey.com, compare these diets to the recommendations for food
intake for these individuals. Create a graph for the three subjects depicting the deficiency, the potential medical problem and the potential nutritional solution.

Based on the findings design a diet to prevent or remedy potential nutritional problems and state your rationale.

EVALUATION

The final project grade will be based on the following:

1.  Graphic representation of the problem and solution

2.  Recommendations based on sound nutritional resources.

3.  Rationale for selection of the designed diet.

CONCLUSION

After completing this exercise you will hopefully be able to better assess the value of a fast food meal and know how to supplement such a diet if that is the only option available in your lifestyle situation.
