What
is Campus Civitan?
Campus Civitan is a part of the Civitan International Organization. We
are an INTERNATIONAL community service organization. We believe is assisting
and leading all facets of community service and developing our members
to become better leaders and citizens.
What
is Civitan?
Civitan International is our parent organization. Their goals and mission
are very similar to those of Campus Civitan. Civitan clubs are composed
of community and business leaders who are dedicated to improving their community
and world. Our Campus club will be very active with our sponsoring Civitan
club; this will give us an opportunity to help with their projects and network
with their members.
What
types of things do you do?
Campus Civitan clubs do everything! Our volunteer efforts have ranged
from organizing basketball tournaments for people with disabilities to
holding large food and clothing drives for the homeless to helping out
with other charities such as Habitat for Humanity. We also hold social
events such as road trips, movie nights, or after meeting dinners.
When
and How often do you meet?
Our club meets every 1st and 3rd Monday of every month from :7:00pm-7:45pm.
We are in suites on the second floor of the Student Center.A copy of our
meeting schedule can be found at the Office of Community Service &
Learning
How
much are dues?
Dues are $25 that last from November to November.
What
will I gain by being a member?
By being a member of Campus Civitan, you will learn practical experience
in things such as leadership, public speaking, taking responsibility,
running meetings, organizing events, etc. You will also gain new friends
and have the opportunity to make more from around the country at our conferences.
Through working with local Civitan Clubs, you will have the opportunity
to make some great connections that may prove very beneficial after graduation.
Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to truly make a difference
in your community!
How
is Campus Civitan different from Circle K and Rotaract?
Campus Civitan is actually very similar to Circle K and Rotaract in the
fact that we are all service organizations. Our differences lie mostly
in the types of programs that we promote within our organizations and
the type of projects that our clubs undertake on a local level. Since
this is a new club, it's up to us to make sure that our projects will
serve the community's needs in the best way possible.
On many campuses, it has proven beneficial to have a number of community
service organizations. It can provide for healthy competition between
the groups, which will push each other to better itself. More importantly,
it provides excellent opportunities for these clubs to do joint activities
in order to undertake really large projects.
What
leadership opportunities are there in Campus Civitan?
There will be a number of offices and committees that you can serve in
as part of this club. Most Campus Civitan clubs have President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and a Public Relations Coordinator. You may also
have the opportunity to get involved on the district and international
level of the Campus Civitan organization.
What
is the Civitan International Research Center?
The Civitan International Research Center is the major emphasis project
of Civitan International. It is the facility in Birmingham, Alabama, which
focuses on the research and treatment of developmental disabilities..
It's a one of a kind facility that has made a huge progress in treating
people with disabilities. The Civitan organization is proud to give over
1 million dollars a year to the Center through fund raising projects done
by the Civitan clubs from around the world.
