Meeting Minutes

1. IEP Scholarship, John Bunting explained the IEP and requested support for the textbooks for recipient of the scholarship. Textbook support was approved.

2.Guests for this semester and next year ( Alcocer, Galeano, Condé): report on visits by Univa ( Gabe) and FCRB ( Héctor): Alcocer informed about Galeano's and Condé's future visits( details have been arranged; both visits will be in the spring semester). The Univa guests, Caldereon, Roque and Sahagún, will visit from October 3 - 7 and lecture twice on October 5, from ten to twelve or eleven to one and on October 6, as part of the Southeastern Eco-Community Conference hosted by GSU Psychology. FCRB guests will be here from October 17-21. They will present on the 18th.

3.Status of changes to PAGs and ISGs; new PAG committee ( Cassie, Victoria, Rudy, Gabe). WE have adopted the new policies that were approved at the last meeting. Semester deadlines are October 15th and March 14th.

4.PAG or ISG requests? Please note new deadlines.

5.Mentoring program, Julia & Margarita. Margarita Muñoz informs faculty about the mentor program and four CLALS members join the program ( in addition to the other members already serving as mentors)

6.Status of the certificate program, David McCreery informs we have six students on the certificate and one is likely to graduate soon.

7.Other topics: McCoy accepts to serve as contact person for the undergraduate minor in Latin American studies. Paden informs SAR will publish proceedings of last year's symposium; publication due in 2009. Muñoz requests donations for the Latino endowment. Schiffer comments on website issues and search in Communication. Reati comments on Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies and visits to Córdoba.

The meeting adjourned at 2:00 pm.

The next CLALS meeting will be at one o'clock on Oct. 26, 2007.
