I grew up in an area where there are a few reservations and there were just enough of us to be recognized for bullying--- but not enough of us to have any strength.  As painful as it is, I try to blend in as much as possible and not let my being Indian stand out.  Sometimes, here at college, people ask if I’m Latino and I kind of like it.  Of course, that’s silly because, on the one hand, I’m like Latinos in that they are really descendents of indigenous people like I am.  Most of the world doesn’t see them as Native American, though, so I can blend in to something other than weak and trodden upon.
