Our Mission: The Office of Civic Engagement promotes and encourages opportunities for community service and service-learning that enhance student learning and advance community development while responding to societal issues and concerns. Conveniently located in the Student Center, we provide assistance for students, student groups, faculty, and staff with regards to volunteerism, community service, and service learning, in addition to serving as a clearinghouse/think-tank for outreach programs in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Lovell received both his B.S. in Education and his Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. He currently serves on the Village of Bedford Pines Operation PEACE Board of Directors. He also serves on several Advisory Boards, including the American Red Cross Fulton Service Center and Project Healthy Grandparents. Lovell is Past-President of the Council of Volunteer Administrators of Metro Atlanta and the Georgia Campus Community Service Association. In 2002, he was appointed to the Georgia Commission on Service and Volunteerism as a Commissioner by then-Governor Roy Barnes. If that wasn’t enough, he serves as advisor to seven student service organizations; Campus Civitan, Circle K International, Habitat Georgia State, Colleges Against Cancer, Hands on Atlanta Georgia State chapter, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Gamma Sigma Sigma. Lovell believes in practicing what he preaches, and he invites you to join him and other Georgia State students as they reach out to the greater Atlanta community.
If you’ve recently been accosted by a short woman asking you about community service or Volunteer Solutions … you’ve met Alysia Brown. The latest addition to the Dean of Students and Office of Civic Engagement staff, she joined the team as Administrative Coordinator in January 2007 and is excited about the caliber of students and student organizations she has had the pleasure of working with. |
