2006 Into the Streets Project List Atlanta Urban Ministries Atlanta Urban Ministries offers several opportunities for volunteer service. After School Program: Volunteers are needed to help provide tutoring and act as mentors for children of families living in the Emergency Shelter. Reading is Fun Program: Volunteers are needed to provide one-on-one reading instruction to homeless children living at the Shelter. Creative Writing: This program helps children to express themselves through writing. Additional volunteers are needed to help in the writing and production of a play on the subject of homelessness and its effects upon a child’s life. This program involves interacting with approximately 15-20 children. S.T.A.R.S.: This program targets homeless middle- and high school-aged girls and seeks to provide a positive environment and support for issues such as teen pregnancy, school problems, drug abuse, and other concerns. Saturday Enrichment Program: Volunteers are needed two Saturdays permonth to accompany homeless children on special field trips to educational attractions in metropolitan Atlanta.
