The Georgia State Center For Writing & Research Website provides general information about the Center and offers many online services. We created the site to assist both the community and students unable to come to the Center during open hours. The site also allows patrons to connect to numerous online writing resources.

Writing Center tutors have compiled a list of 25 online writing labs that may be useful for students, teachers, and researchers. These labs provide a wealth of information on writing related subjects. Just click on the source.

The list:

1.Purdue University’s easily navigable and comprehensive site provides excellent resources for teachers and students of writing as well as links to ESL and professional writing materials. Includes a search box for easy navigation.

2.Bellvue Community College offers a thorough, annotated list of online writing resources, and helpful tips on MLA and APA documentation, parallel structure and apostrophes.

3.Bethel College’s Writing Lab contains easy-to-find links to interactive grammar guides, MLA, APA, and Chicago documentation, and general tips for writing and organizing essays.

4.The University of Central Florida provides great teacher handouts, online writing resources including citation styles divided by discipline, and links to ESL and Business Writing.

5.Colorado College offers excellent resources and tips for students in every stage of the writing process.

6. Colorado State University’s site contains an annotated list of online writing links, interactive tutorials and demonstrations, citation styles, library resources, and a lengthy list of teacher resources. This site also provides an alphabetical index for easy searching.

7. George Mason University supplies links to specialized writing guides, online grammar guides and handouts, and a virtual reference library.

8. The University of Georgia provides resources for students including links to advice on the Regents exam, the writing process, organization and content, grammar and mechanics, style and diction, and online links to reference materials and ESL resources.

9. The University of Illinois Writers’ Workshop offers an annotated list of student, teacher, and ESL resources, as well as a great list of helpful writing tips and techniques.

10. Malaspina University’s Writing Center site is dedicated to links and resources for Writing across the Curriculum.

11. The University of Missouri’s Writery offers an extensive list of links for various writing audiences. They provide tips on how to research online, document sources in MLA and APA formats, as well as offer links for creative writers, journalists, and writers looking to publish their work.

12. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers an ever-growing collection of helpful handouts for students, an annotated list of online resources from other university sites, as well as tips and tools for teaching writing.

13. The University of Ottawa’s HyperGrammar is an excellent grammar guide, providing definitions, explanations, and examples of everything from basic punctuation to paragraph construction.

14. St. Cloud State University’s Literacy Education Online site answers specific questions about various stages of the writing process, logic, development, citation, grammar, and punctuation.

15. Shepard College offers handouts for planning, writing, organizing, and revising essays. They also provide helpful strategies for reading critically and writing scientific papers.

16. Sonoma State’s Writing Center site contains an extensive list of links for recognizing and overcoming various writing obstacles. They also include “real world” advice for graduate and post-graduate students such as planning and writing the MA thesis and organizing cover letters and resumes.

17. Taft College provides a lengthy list of handouts and online links including sample essays, research aids such as the Library of Congress, ESL tips, and useful advice for all stages of the writing process.

18. Temple University offers excellent links for constructing an argumentative essay, developing thesis statements and proofreading strategies, and writing with style.

19. Texas Tech University’s Writing Center provides links to seven different style guides including MLA, APA, Chicago, ACS, and IEEE Computer Science Society Style Guide.

20. The University of Toronto’s site includes guidelines for writing book reviews and lab reports as well as expository and argumentative essays. They also offer advice for reading critically, planning and organizing essays, taking notes, researching, and citing sources.

21. Trinity College in Washington D.C. provides an annotated list of interactive links for students of writing including grammar, punctuation, and citation quizzes. For teachers of writing, they offer links to assignment resources and The Bedford Handbook Companion Site.

22. The University of West Florida’s site includes excerpts from their publication “The Write Advice” which answers specific questions about business and professional writing, grammar, mechanics, and organization. They also provide an extensive list of handouts (although many are not yet linked to the web).

23. Winthrop University’s Writing Center site describes and offers examples of various argumentation styles (classic, Toulmin, and Rogerian), provides tips on grammar, punctuation, documentation, and special topics including evaluating the validity of internet sources, acing in-class essay exams, and avoiding plagiarism.

24. The University of Washington’s Writing Center is specifically geared toward Psychology students and offers an extensive list of links and handouts for writing strategies, formatting, and documenting in Psychology essays.

25. The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Writing Center offers great links on the stages of the writing process, evaluating assignments, improving style, proofreading for grammar and punctuation, and citing sources. Also includes a search box for easy navigation.
