Students in the Speech program at Georgia State do much more than simply “public speaking.”
Speech communication analyzes the persuasive power of spoken messages in a variety of media and situations. Speech majors study communication among individuals, groups, organizations and cultures.
Courses in speech examine such areas as interpersonal and nonverbal communication, persuasion and argumentation, rhetorical criticism, public address, communication development, and communication disorders.
The Speech major prepares students for any profession that requires expertise in oral expression and an understanding of how communication works, including business, law, politics, teaching, and the ministry.
