GSU Administrative Specialist – Managerial
Tawanna Tookes manages the administrative work relating to the Department of Communication’s graduate programs (admission, comprehensive exams, graduation audits, and assistantship program); supervises the staff; and assists the department chair. She has a MBA (with an emphasis in Public Administration), B.S. degree in Urban Studies (with an emphasis in Human Resources) from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and an A.A. degree in Business Administration. Tookes has a Certificate in Hospitality Operations from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business and is a 2005 graduate of the GSU Leadership Academy for Women.
Tookes is the recipient of the 2011 Senior Staff Leadership Award in the College of Arts and Sciences and the University’s Sparks Award, its most prestigious award for staff accomplishment. She is active on several GSU governance committees, including the College of Arts and Sciences Executive Committee, Mentoring and Morale Committee, and a past elected member of the University Staff Council for over 10 years.
She serves as the department’s coordinator for the annual Project Healthy Grandparents Campaign, and in the community she is a volunteer for the Children Restoration Network.
