Kathy Fuller-Seeley

Kathryn Fuller-Seeley specializes in the history of media and audiences. Fuller-Seeley is the author of four books that relate to various aspects of American film history: Hollywood in the Neighborhood: Historical Case Studies in Small Town Moviegoing (California, 2008, edited), Celebrate Richmond Theatre (Dietz 2001), At the Picture Show: Small Town Audiences and the Creation of Movie Fan Culture (Virginia 2001; Smithsonian 1997), and Children and the Movies: Media Influence and the Payne Fund Controversy (Cambridge 1996, with G. Jowett and I. Jarvie).
She is writing a book project about Jack Benny’s radio program and American culture in the 1930s, and book projects on the history of nickelodeons and on early film exhibition in Cooperstown, New York. Recent book chapters on media history topics have appeared in the collections Explorations in New Cinema History (Blackwell, 2011) Glamour in a Golden Age:Movie Stars of the 1930s (Rutgers, 2011), Convergence Media History (Routledge 2010), Looking Past the Screen (Duke, 2007) and The Columbia History of Television (Columbia 2007).
Fuller-Seeley has been the recipient of fellowships from the NEH and the Smithsonian Institution. She has been interviewed on NPR and Georgia Public Television served as Project Scholar for an American Experience documentary about Mary Pickford which aired on PBS in 2005.
