Farooq Kperogi

 

Farooq Kperogi, former CIME Assistant Director of Research, has accepted a position as assistant professor of Journalism and Citizen Media at Kennesaw State University to begin in Fall 2011.

He graduated this Spring with a Ph.D. in Public Communication in the Department of Communication having written a dissertation that explores the transnational online citizen journalistic practices of the Nigerian diasporic public sphere. He received his bachelor's degree in Mass Communication (with a print journalism concentration and a double minor in English and Political Science) from the Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria, where he won the Nigerian Television Authority Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student in Mass Communication.

After working as a reporter and news editor in Nigeria, as a researcher/speech writer at the office of the Nigerian president, and as a journalism instructor at two Nigerian colleges, he proceeded to the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, USA, where he earned his Master of Science degree in Communication and received the Outstanding Master's Student in Communication award. He is recipient of the 2009 Department of Communication Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in Graduate Studies.
