In May of 2010, the program in Moving Image Studies, under the sponsorship of the Department of Communication, hosted Dudley Andrew (Yale University) for an intensive two-day workshop of the manuscript of a new book Professor Andrew is in the process of writing. This was the inaugural workshop in a program which the Department of Communication plans to continue annually, in which distinguished international scholars bring in book manuscripts at the last stages of the writing process to workshop with our department's faculty and advanced graduate students. In Spring 2011, we plan to bring in Ernesto Laclau to workshop his new book, Elusive Universality.
Also in attendance at the Dudley Andrew workshops was Natasa Ďurovičová from the University of Iowa, co-editor of the recent collection, World Cinemas, Transnational Perspectives (Routledge, 2010).
