| The painting was completed in 1993 and represents Rockville
School, the first consolidated rural school in Georgia, which
still stands in its restored condition in the Rockville area of
Putnam County. "This is one of Putnam County's historical landmarks, and I passed this building every time I visited Dixie Nally, who is sadly no longer with us. She was an elderly lady who used to live in the Oconee Springs area, just past Rockville, and she gave me some of my earliest painting lessons. Though she worked in oil and acrylic mainly, she still taught me some things that transferred into my watercolors." - Travis Hicks |
