Identification and Analysis
This category includes activities that require students to identify and label grammatical features (e.g., underlining all the verbs) but may also require the analysis of whole text features (e.g., Why do you think the author used passive verbs in these sentences?). Movement from identification to analysis represents a step up in cognitive processing.
Included here is a range of activities that can be said to occur along a continuum that represents the extent to which students become involved with the text in completing the exercise.
