The hard copy
of "Understanding" collection includes a unified list of references
located in the back of the book. We describe the book's reference
list as "unified" because it includes in alphabetical order all of the
citations that appear in the collection's 24 chapters. For this Internet
site we rearranged these same references into several categories to make
it easier for those using the book to: (1) conduct library searches, (2)
order materials through interlibrary loan, (3) have library personnel purchase
copies to make available for general use, or (4) have access to electronic
versions of the citation information for writing papers and such.
The primary categories are (a) whole books, (b) journal articles and book
chapters, and (c) Internet and other resources. In addition, chapter-specific
reference lists are located on the Internet sites tied to specific book
chapters (see Table
of Contents).
