UETS Goals and Objectives for FY2008
The UETS division is comprised of the eLearning and Digital Media Services
groups. The goals, objectives and action items listed below are indicative
of the forward-thinking and planning of the unit, and are aligned with
the strategic plans of the University and Information Systems & Technology
(IS&T).
Note: The numbers in parentheses prior to each objective indicates the
goal(s) to which the objectives are associated. This list is a sample
of our current objectives and is by no means all-inclusive. Additional
objectives will be added as needed. Please contact uets-info@gsu.edu

Goals
- Provide quality educational technology services and support to improve
the quality of instruction, enhance accessibility to information, and
expand and enrich learning opportunities.
- Research and assess innovative technologies that could be applied
to pedagogical strategies, learning principles, information accessibility,
and physical and virtual space in order to create flexible learning
environments and enhance student learning.
- Promote the active exchange of innovative ideas and experiences in
educational technology among the campus community.
- Establish and implement sound business processes that will allow for
the efficient and effective use of our services and resources.
Objectives and Action Items (References to Goal numbers above are noted
before each objective)
- (1) Implement the eLearning Solution established fall 2006 by
- Continuing to provide quality service to individual instructors
- Using eCore template modules and materials to replace some of
the classroom meetings for core courses
- Addressing the redesign of high impact courses identified as
those with high dropout or failure rates
- Providing services to assist departments in developing fully
online graduate programs
- Partnering with institutions to (a) complete the last two years
of online programs or (b) share resorces in pre-professional programs
- (1) Identify standards, guidelines, methods and instruments to be
used to design and evaluate courses and student learning for aquality
and effectiveness in higher education that may be used by the university
community.
- (1) Establish an assessment program that will analyze instructional
methodoligies, pedagogical soundness of course design, interaction design
(usability) testing, and student performance.
- (3) Promote and populate the Gallery
of Instructional Strategies & Technologies (GIST) to the campus
- (1) Expand the use of vClass on campus (eLearning)
- Create a two-to-one training program for faculty
- Redesign the vClass website
- Add some quick tips to the vClass website for using vClass
- Create online tutorial for faculty using vClass
- Design a workshop on how to prepare to move a course to vClass
- (1,2) Implement the iPod and podcasting program with checkout from
the Digital Aquarium and support from UETS staff
- (1,2) Provide pedagogical and technical support to Study Abroad programs.
- (1) Implement the Wimba Voice Tools package within uLearn (formerly
WebCT Vista)
- (3) Improve communication with the campus
- Implementing a virtual lunch 'n learn series on topics in educational

- creating and distributing an elearning newsletter
- (1,2) Improve and replace technology as necessary in the Digital Aquarium
to keep pace with student needs and expectations.
- (3) Maintain existing and develop new collaborative relationships
with other System institutions and State agencies to expand and enhance
the use of learning management systems available to their faculty and
students
- Actively participate in various GeorgiaVIEW committees
- Consult with local campus administrators as needed
- Plan and implement an annual Blackboard Learning System –
Vista Institutional Administrator Meeting in conjunction with the
ALT/BOR
- (3,4) Keep current with changing learning management technology
- Continue to study and experiment with Second Life – tool
to build virtual reality environments
- Attend and present at conferences
- Participate in blogs, listservs, etc to expand our knowledge
base and share information
- (4) Encourage customers to complete our customer satisfaction survey.
Data collected will help us determine where we might need improvement
and for planning purposes.
