Institutional Instructional Technology Support

University Educational Technology Services (UETS) offers one stop shopping for instructional design and course development, including creation of digital media course content. We provide many workshops as well as one-on-one support, conduct customized workshops and seminars and co-sponsor campus events.

Instructional Design

Instructional design involves meeting with faculty or departments to establish the best way to present course materials in an online environment, methods to enhance existing materials, and resources for both the faculty member and the students that would augment the curriculum. Course design is based upon established educational theories and instructional design principles.

Consult with faculty

Manage projects using the ADDIE instructional design model.
Instructional design is a systematic process used to create quality instructional courses and materials. The ADDIE model consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. Although Development is a stage in the process, it is itemized separately here.
Our instructional designers can help you:

  • Analyze online course needs
  • Write course goals, objectives, and measurable learning outcomes
  • Adapt course to an online environment
  • Develop an online syllabus
  • Develop effective online organization
  • Distinguish elements of effective online teaching
  • Develop strategies and techniques for the online classroom
  • Build online learning communities
  • Recognize student perspectives and the needs of online learners

Course Development

Development is the third stage of the Instructional Design process and is the actual construction of the course. Course development is dependent on the first two stages of Analysis and Design.

UETS will develop your course for you. Some of the uLearn development tasks, which UETS provides for faculty include:

  • Digital media products created and installed
  • Add Welcome pages
  • Post syllabi
  • Help with course management (backup, reset courses)
  • Help with file management (upload/download, zip/unzip, delete, etc.) Load PowerPoint presentations
  • Upload multimedia modules
  • Add pages or tools
  • Help with grade management
  • Create quizzes and manage databases
  • Create discussion groups to match course objectives
  • Modify course appearance
  • Convert specialized vendor software to appropriate formats
  • Move course materials or entire courses to CD

Research

Get assistance with conducting your research or writing a research grant. UETS personnel can assist you in writing research grants or conduct research on topics related to online course delivery.

Digital Media Services

Using the latest in equipment and software, University Educational Technology Services (UETS) digital media staff can help faculty create compelling digital course content, including streaming and CD-based video and audio.

Services Include:

  • Preparing video for the web or CD
  • Preparing audio for the web or CD
  • Creating animations for web or CD
  • Graphic Design for Presentations
  • Multimedia enhancements for Presentations including, video, animation and audio
  • Multimedia integration for websites including, video, animation and audio
  • Assistance in selecting content, writing, recording and uploading of podcast
  • Assistance with iTunesU
  • Providing tutoring or training in the use of Digital Media software and hardware
  • Providing advice and guidance in the selection of Digital Media software and hardware
  • Trouble shooting Digital Media software and hardware
  • Digital Aquarium: Multimedia lab for student use

Training, Workshops, and Events

University Educational Technology Services (UETS) provides many opportunities for personal development through training and workshops. We also provide one-on-one support, customized training, lectures and demonstrations, and co-sponsor many campus events.

Services include (some restrictions apply):

  • eTraining - Online, anytime, anywhere
  • Special Request Program - Academic Computing and Faculty/Staff Development
  • Schedule a customized, stand-up training session on uLearn
  • Schedule a trainer to come to your class and teach students how to use uLearn
  • Schedule a uLearn, vClass or eTraining product demonstration
  • Training Troopers - One-on-one on-site training for Georgia State faculty and staff
  • uLearn Workshops and Campus Events - Virtual Lunch 'n Learn events, First Friday Clinics, new faculty orientation, and other special events

Classroom Technology Services

At Georgia State University, many classrooms are equipped with audio-visual and/or computer technology. Planning & Strategic Initiatives (PS&I) installs and maintains the technology in classrooms in the general schedule.

Classroom support is available from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday thru Friday to assist you in using the classrooms and resolving problems.

Open Access Computer Lab Support

The Open Access Computer Labs at Georgia State University are operated by Planning & Strategic Initiatives (PS&I). These labs are designed to provide a wide range of applications and hardware needed by the student population.

All computers in the Open Access Computer Labs and the PS&I supported classrooms are attached to the campus network and have Internet access. All the PCs have an identical software configuration, as do all the Macs.

Services include:

  • Information about software, hardware and network overview
  • Getting Started - Get your User Ids and first login
  • Locations, Hours, Specs - Addresses, schedules, number of computers and printers
  • Software Installation on Servers for Faculty
  • Panther Print - Policies, check print balance and administration.
  • Report a Problem - Hardware or software problem
  • Current Usage - See how many computers are being used in each lab

Alpharetta Center Support

Planning & Strategic Initiatives (PS&I) supports the use of and maintains the technology in the Alpharetta Center classrooms, open access computer lab, library area and staff areas.

Services include:

  • Classroom Hotline for assistance during class 404-413-7777
  • Train new faculty in the use of the technology, such as the Crestron panel, document camera, VCR, slide, computer and other multimedia options available in each classroom
  • Tape classes for replay in same class, or at a later time
  • Convert slides to MS PowerPoint or other digital media
  • Video capture; Assisting faculty and students with taking portions of tapes to be placed in MS PowerPoint
  • Assist faculty and students with software and hardware related issues
  • Assist faculty and students with laptop connectivity in the classrooms
  • Teach or assist with computer related classes, such as web development and MS Office
