Alternative Assessments

Learning Outcomes | Alternative Assessment | uLearn Survey Reports | Research Assistance

There are alternative forms of assessment to quizzes and exams. Alternative assessments allow instructors to evaluate students “real life” skills, creativity, planning skills, and knowledge integration. They are often a more advanced level of assessment according to Bloom’s taxonomy. Some assessments allow instructors to observe a student’s performance and to compile a student’s work.

Examples of alternate assessments include portfolios, journals, case studies, reflections, fieldwork, reports, presentations, peer reviews and so on.

UETS’ instructional designers can help you select and incorporate alternative assessments based on your course’s learning outcomes.
