The Eudora Welty Newsletter was established by William McDonald in 1977 at the University of Toledo as a necessary and long overdue tool of scholarship, information, and homage to one of America's most beloved writers, Eudora Welty. Since that time, it has evolved to include bibliographic references to her works, textual analyses, news and queries about Eudora Welty and her works, checklists of scholarship, textual analyses, discussions of variations of Welty's work, and typescripts of awards ceremonies and speeches by and about Miss Welty. After twenty years of leadership by Dr. McDonald, the Newsletter moved to its new home at Georgia State University under the direction of its new editor, Pearl A. McHaney, and business manager, Thomas L. McHaney. In 2009 , the Eudora Welty Newsletter metamorphosed into the Eudora Welty Review, an annual journal, published each April. The innaugural issue contains essays chosen from past Eudora Welty Newsletters. Beginning in 2010, the Eudora Welty Review will publish lengthier scholarly essays, inaugurate a book review section, and maintain regular features for news and notes, textual analyses, checklists, and new archival materials, still with appropriate illustrative materials. Additional scholars have been invited to assist EWR editors as peer reviewers and members of the Advisory Board.
The EWR is an invaluable resource for Welty scholars and lovers of Welty's work. The $10 per year subscription rate includes one issue. To order, call the number below or click here to access an order form. If you would like to contribute to the EWR, please see the Guidelines for Manuscript Submission below.
The editors of EWR are constantly seeking new information about such Welty news items as adaptations of her works, forthcoming conferences of interest to Welty scholars, and awards given to Welty in acknowledgement of her contributions to American literature. Please email any such information - or feel free to contact the staff with any other comments or questions - by mail, phone, or email:
