Dear fellow Georgia State University coworkers,
Today, we announce the formal kickoff of the annual State Charitable Contributions Program for 2008-2009.
It’s impossible to talk about this charity campaign without acknowledging the financial uncertainty of our times. Most of you, like us, have been talking a lot lately with family members, friends and coworkers about the high cost of fuel, food and other life essentials.
It’s no doubt that most if not all of us are paying a lot more attention to what we spend and our family budget priorities. These challenging times have also gripped another part of our lives, maybe without most of us realizing it.
Helping organizations across Georgia are seeing their budgets cut and their funding threatened during a time when their missions are even more vital. Agencies that serve needy and underprivileged are seeing a staggering increase in requests for their resources.
These agencies and organizations commit their service in every community in Georgia and serve many people in our lives. That’s why this year’s State Charitable Contributions Program (SCCP) is as important as it has ever been.
Soon, a campaign coordinator from your college, division or unit will provide you a pledge form and a brochure that explains the SCCP and includes a comprehensive listing of the more than 1,200 organizations that are eligible for your donations.
We’re proud that Georgia State has had a great record of contributing to this campaign. In the past four years alone, employees and retirees have contributed more than $500,000 to the SCCP.
This year, even with money worries on everybody’s minds, we’re aiming to increase participation. We’re asking everyone to consider making a pledge to a group that you believe in.
Also this year, the campaign is featuring drawings for prizes for all who have sent in a pledge. Our give-aways will include a host of Panther gear and other special prizes.
Look for the State Charities button under popular links on www.gsu.edu and follow the link for updates on prize winners and all campaign updates.
If you have any questions about the SCCP campaign or have not received your pledge form, talk to the campaign coordinator in your area or contact Greg Jones or Mike Metzler.
Thank you.
