April 3, 2008 Liz Babiarz, 404-413-1356 Georgia State University honors President’s Award winners ATLANTA – Alicia Philipp, president of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, will be the keynote speaker at Georgia State's 2008 President's Awards ceremony, 2 p.m. Wednesday (April 9) in the Student Center Speakers Auditorium. At the ceremony, Georgia State will honor five recipients with President’s Awards. The winners are students, faculty and staff members as well as community groups who make a positive impact in the greater Atlanta area and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to service. The ceremony is free and open to the public. The 2008 President’s Award winners include: Outstanding Community Impact (Student): Karishma Saini “We know people don’t engage in service to receive recognition,” said Lovell Lemons, director of Georgia State’s Office of Civic Engagement. “So, we feel it is important that we take the time to celebrate their accomplishments to let them know we appreciate what they do and hopefully their work will inspire others to give back and address a community need.” The awards were developed by the Office of Civic Engagement and Georgia State President Carl Patton, who is retiring in June.
