PREAMBLE TO THE FACULTY HANDBOOK

Faculty are responsible and accountable for the information contained in the Faculty Handbook. The handbook is composed of several major sections. The section entitled Faculty Personnel Policies is the only section considered by the institution to be contractual in nature between the faculty member and the institution. When signing the employment contract, the faculty member (1) agrees that the above section of the Faculty Handbook is part of the contract with the university and (2) assumes resonsibility to become and remain knowledgeable of the appropriate section of the handbook.

The Faculty Personnel Policies section of the Faculty Handbook shall be reviewed and updated at least annually. Faculty contracts are negotiated anew each year. Therefore, the faculty member agrees anew each year to the contents of the contractual section of the handbook.

The remainder of the Faculty Handbook is for informational purposes only and does not establish the terms and conditions of employment and cannot be relied upon as a basis for a contract, either express or implied. All informational items contained in the handbook are subject to change at any time at the discretion of Georgia State University.
