JURIED STUDENT EXHIBITION

Marilu Knode Presents: 2008 Juried Student Exhibition

Coordinated by Mia McBeth

This is the first year that selections for the Juried Student Exhibition were determined by a review of digital image submissions. Marilu Knode was our first juror from outside Atlanta. We were pleased to offer a new process of critical review for Welch School student work and considered this an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from a significant contemporary art curator.

Introducing our Juror: Marilu Knode

Marilu Knode has organized over 35 one-person and thematic group exhibitions with artists from around the globe. She has traveled and taught in the Middle East since the late 1990s, and is currently co-organizing a project of contemporary North African and Middle Eastern artists. She is currently Associate Director / Head of Research at F.A.R. (Future Arts Research) @ ASU (Arizona State University). F.A.R. will invite national and international artists to the Phoenix area for residencies, convene panel discussions and commssion special projects and performances. She will organize a symposium of desert aesthetics for the fall of 2008. She was most recently senior curator at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and before that was senior curator at the Institute of Visual Arts (inova), University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
