TOURS + INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

STUDENT SCULPTURE GARDEN PROJECT

SUMMER 2008

June 5 – August 7
Intersections of Nature and Industry

Coordinated by Waduda Muhammad

Intersections of Nature & Industry is an exhibition that explores how  ceramic artists investigate areas where nature and industry intersect, each from a unique perspective.

The one commonality shared by all the artists is their use of clay as a medium.  The choice of clay as a primary focus for this exhibition is appropriate in that it is a natural material that has been exploited throughout history for its industrial uses, from utilitarian cookery and storage ware, as an early form of plumbing, to its architectural uses, and today as a material used in the fields of medicine, electronics, and aerospace, to name a few.

The work presented in Intersections of Nature & Industry will highlight clay's natural qualities and history as well as contemporary processes and ideas through wheel thrown forms, sculpture, mixed media construction, and installation.
