As of fall semester, 2005, all
theses and dissertations that
can be conventionally printed on standard 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper and
required as part of a degree program by the College of Arts and Sciences
are accepted
only in digital (.pdf)
format. Theses or dissertations conventionally presented in other
media or non-standard formats will be
considered for digital archiving on an individual basis.
There is no requirement for
digitizing Studio Art materials and manuscripts. Contact the
Graduate Office for information for preparing an M.F.A. thesis or
follow the specific guidelines at the link attached to this page.
The university and the College of
Arts and Sciences no longer have need of paper copies to certify
completion of degree programs. Publication and archiving are
provided by the Pullen Library, eliminating the need for paying
outside vendors. Students who wish, or are required to
provide their departments hard bound copies must make arrangements
individually through the Graduate Office of Arts and Sciences
during the
semester of graduation. Only
a limited number of bound copies can be provided, primarily for internal
use at Georgia State University.
Each student must assume full
responsibility for the correct form of the document.
A thesis or dissertation may be
submitted for acceptance no earlier than the beginning of the
semester in which the student is registered to graduate
and no later than the appropriate deadline the
semester of graduation as listed on the graduate office Web site.
In addition, each
student must have
completed the
application for graduation by the established deadline; this form is
available in the Graduation Office, Room 231 Sparks Hall and online
at the Enrollment Services Web site.
Students
must have a preliminary copy of their
thesis or dissertation reviewed by the Director of the Graduate
Office for correct formatting before the posted review deadline.
Files should be sent as email attachments to
gascas@langate.gsu.edu
"MANUSCRIPT
FOR REVIEW" should appear
in the subject line of the email.
Candidates for graduation must receive preliminary
review no later than the stated deadline.
The Graduate Office does not read
any thesis or
dissertation for content
or check for style, spelling, or grammar. These are the
responsibility of the author. With the few exceptions listed under the “style”
section of the Guidelines,
academic conventions of presentation are determined by the
discipline standards (MLA, APA, CBE, etc.).
You need not have defended your
thesis/dissertation before having it reviewed by the
appropriate Graduate Office representative or before uploading on
the library server.
Any student who has questions
concerning the thesis or dissertation should first contact the
department graduate director for guidance.
The
thesis or dissertation must be the original work of the student. The
student must
also be first
author of any journal articles included as chapters.
All submissions must be based on the
current Guidelines circulated by the Graduate Office and found on this
Web site.
It is not sufficient
simply to imitate the format of another thesis or dissertation.
Theses and dissertations accepted in the past do not set precedent
for exceptions to the current standards.

dissertation preparation, call 404-463-8086. Please do not rely on other students, previous
guidelines, previous theses or dissertations or the library staff to correctly answer
your questions. . |
