Interests:
After receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, Dr. Burgess joined Georgia State University in September 1997. Her past, present, and current research is all informed by the theoretical and methodological approach of life course sociology. Dr. Burgess, writing with Vern Bengtson at the University of Southern California, focuses on theoretical and conceptual dimensions of the sociology of aging. Her ongoing research applies the life course perspective to the study of intimate relationships, such as marital relationships, sexuality, and families. Along with Dr. Denise Donnelly and a team of Georgia State researchers, Dr. Burgess has just completed data collection of a web-based survey of involuntary celibacy.
