Interests:
Dr. Reitzes’ primary research interests are focused on symbolic interaction theory and the implications and applications of identity and self-concept on well-being and behavior. Recent published research studies include investigations of reciprocity between family generations, self-esteem and subjective responses to work among mature workers, the moderating effects of stress on depressive symptoms, friendship and social support for adult role identity, and the importance of racial-ethnic identity for blacks, whites, and multiracials. His professional development activities include 1 book and over 50 articles, 75 presentations at professional meetings, and $1.1 million in federally-funded research grants. He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, was elected an officer of the Social Psychology Section of the American Sociological Association, and serves on the editorial boards of Social Forces and Social Psychology Quarterly. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in social psychology (SOCI 3110, Identity, Self, and Social Interaction, and SOCI 8110, Social Psychology).
