Research and Teaching Interest:
Dr. Zhan focuses her research mainly on two areas: 1) aging and long-term care in global perspectives and 2) family and gender issues in global perspectives. Her aging research is centered on issues of long-term care in China. Her publications have examined the social consequences of the one-child policy on parental care, explored recent development in institutional care in Tianjin, and studied Chinese elderly immigrants' religiosity and well-being.
Dr. Zhan teaches courses in aging, gender, and family. She also teaches graduate seminar on aging and family issues in global perspectives and a course on sociology of aging.
