Gerontology Hosts Anne Eaton's 99th Birthday Party

November 2007

Anne Eaton is showered with flowers for her 99th birthday party.

On Tuesday, November 7, 2007 the Gerontology Institute hosted a 99th birthday party in honor of Anne Eaton, one of the gerontology program's first graduates in June, 1977. We know Anne's family and many friends will be planning to mark her 100th birthday next year, so we thought we would get the jump on them by celebrating a year early.

A milestone was reached last spring when we completed 20 years of awarding the Anne Eaton Scholarship to outstanding graduate students in the gerontology program. Anne Eaton Scholars were introduced during the party and gathered around their benefactor for a picture. Click here for photo.

Anne Eaton's family joined us for her Gerontology Institute reception.

Dr. Frank Whittington presented Ms. Eaton with a book "Living to 100" which she immediately took as a challenge by responding, "I will try." She was amazed to hear Dr. Whittington read from a diary she kept while in the gerontology program many years ago. Many students identified with her complaints and strategies for studying for exams.

Birthday guests enjoy afternoon refreshments and birthday cake.

Anyone wishing to honor Anne may make a donation to the Anne Eaton Scholarship Fund, c/o the Georgia State University Foundation, P.O. Box 3963, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA 30302-3963.
