The Gerontology Alumni Club's first "Pearls of Wisdom" Gala raised over $16,000 benefiting the Gerontology Alumni Scholarship Fund. This brings the endowed alumni scholarship funds to $70,000 making possible seven scholarship awards to students beginning the Gerontology Institute's new master's degree this fall.
The gala was held the evening of April 24 at the Roswell Woman's Club Showcase Home, Prestwick Manor, located in the elegant and unique Glenayre community. Guests toured the Showcase Home with more than 30 rooms and spaces decorated by the metropolitan area's talented interior designers and enjoyed an evening of fine dining and entertainment.
We would like to thank those who made the gala possible: the guests who attended the gala and made the evening memorable, the host committee who assured the success of the event, the gala sponsors and donors who supported the fundraising efforts, and the event planning committee for their creative ideas and hard work. We want to express grateful appreciation to Miriam and Gordon Sherman, honorary chairs of the gala, Betty Van Gerpen, chair of the host committee, and Laura Hamling, chair of the planning committee. Others serving on the planning committee were Patrice Earnest, Ginny Helms, Catherine Ivy, Mary Jowers, Mary MacKinnon, Pam Matheson, Rebecca Stahr, Debra Vennes, and Frank Whittington.
