Scholarships
Scholarships come in many different forms and create a way to assist
students directly. These funds enable students the opportunity
to focus on their studies as well as becoming involved in every
level of the University.
Student Emergency Support Services
Many students need emergency
financial assistance at some point in their college carrier and
with the help of this fund Student Services
is able to help in many situations. For example, this has
been used to replace stolen books, damaged goods, and even help
students in more dire circumstances. This assistance allows students
to
continue their education when an unforeseen emergency arises.
Scholarships
can be created in any area of Student Life. For instance, a scholarship
can be given to send a student to LeaderShape,
which
is a weeklong leadership conference for students. There is also
a need to help support our international students with unexpected
needs.
Other areas that have a scholarship need are the Margaret A.
Staton Office of Disability Services and the student leaders who
take
part in so many campus activities. Many of our students can
use additional
financial assistance to help relieve the financial pressures
that often hinder a student from continuing their education. It is
possible
to add to any existing fund as well as starting a new fund with
specific criteria attached. It is important to understand that
a contribution
to or the creation of a scholarship fund directly accomplishes
a basic goal of the University, to keep students in school.
Career and Job Search Services
The Center at Georgia State is "job central" on campus.
As a University in an urban setting our students get a lot of real
world experience that is very valuable to them upon graduation.
However, in many cases it is important for students to have an office
that
can help them narrow the search for employment and teach the fine
details of interviewing and professional appearance. This office
sees more than 6,000 students each year who take advantage of the
various programs and interview options available.
Career Conversations
This program provides an opportunity for Georgia State students
to learn about careers in specific industries or fields. This
program is held twice monthly and includes a panel of community
members
in
the highlighted field that discuss their career paths.
Dine Like a Professional: Business Etiquette Dinner
The primary objective of the dinner is to assist students with
basic etiquette dining skills. This program is held once
a semester and
is always full of both undergraduate and graduate students.
Career
Center Master Plan
The Center will be moving locations to the University Center
in order to expand the services and create a more comprehensive
atmosphere
for career development. This allows you the opportunity
to make a
donation to help in our efforts. There are several naming
opportunities available in the new center.
Student Development Programs
Georgia State University encourages our students to take
advantage of all of the opportunities for involvement
on campus and in
the community. There are several programs that emphasize
this concept.
Spotlight
Spotlight is a student run organization responsible for coordinating
and implementing activities that enhance and enrich the quality
of student life at Georgia State University. Spotlight exists to
complement the learning environment at Georgia State through educational,
social, and cultural activities. These events take place on various
parts of the campus including the new Student Center, the Recreation
Center, and across the various plazas, all of which are high traffic
areas for students. Its eight committees; Black Life and Culture,
Cinefest, Concerts, Homecoming, Public Relations, Speakers, Special
Events, and Women's Life and Development sponsor programs that
address the needs and interests of Georgia State University's diverse
student body. Spotlight offers Georgia State students everything
traditional campuses offer and much more.
Community Services
This office provides technical assistance for students, student
groups, faculty, and staff with regards to volunteerism community
service,
and service learning, in addition to serving as a clearinghouse/think-tank
for outreach programs in the metropolitan Atlanta area. There
