SETESOL 2008 in Birmingham
September 24-27

Dr. Julia Austin at Univ of Alabama - Birmingham is the conference chair for SETESOL 2008 in Birmingham. In the past several years, the conference makeup has changed from a fairly balanced adult/higher ed/IEP and K-12 composition to heavily weighted toward K-12. So, to reverse that trend, Dr. Austin would like to have balanced conferences and encourage people from the "missing areas" (adult ed/higher ed/IEP) across the region to submit proposals. The proposal deadline is May 1, 2008 and more info can be found at http://www.amtesol.org

Resume Workshop

Plan Now: Creating a CV for the Career You Want
Given by Gayle Nelson (Professor, Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL and Director, International Programs), and Cheryl Delk (Director, Intensive English Program)

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
3:00 - 4:30 PM
Conference Room, 12th Floor, 34 Peachtree Building

In this workshop you will learn what employers look for in hiring English language teachers.  We will discuss issues related to planning your graduate career so you are "marketable" when you graduate, to writing a discipline specific CV, and to looking for jobs.  It's a good idea to take this workshop at the beginning of your MA Program and essential to take it before you graduate.

Students who attend will be able to work on creating their CVs with Dr. Nelson while they are in the MA program.  Remember also that a CV is a required component of the MA Portfolio that students complete before graduating.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Audrey Roberson (audreyroberson@gmail.com or aroberson10@student.gsu.edu) by Friday, September 26.  Refreshments will be provided.
