Start-up funds of $200 are being made available to schools new (no involvement
in previous five years) to GSO. These grants are intended for schools with financial need so requests from schools in smaller systems will have priority.
The funds are intended to cover some of the costs for construction materials, reference books, etc. The funds may NOT be used for transportation to regional or state tournaments. Teams with GSO New School Grants will also be eligible for a reduced registration fee of $65.
Applicant schools must be a middle school offering at least grades seven and eight or a high school offering at least grades ten through twelve.
Applicant schools must submit a completed (and fully signed) application form. The form is down-loadable as a PDF file from this web site. The application must include a typed statement (one double-spaced page maximum) about why the school desires to participate in GSO.
Applications are to be sent to:
Milton Stombler
Georgia Science Olympiad
Georgia State Univ. P.O. Box 3967
Atlanta, GA 30302-3967
The application deadline is October 22, 2004.
The grant recipient's responsibility is to have a team compete at the assigned
GSO regional tournament and not use any of the Grant funds for transportation.
The school is expected to provide funds for transportation - the students are
not expected to raise funds for transportation. Failure to compete will require
repayment of all GSO New Team Grant funds.
