The mission of the Center for the Study of the American South is to extend the historic role of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as the world's premier institution for research, teaching, and public dialogue on the history, culture, and contemporary experience of the American South.

The Journal of Southern History
The Journal of Southern History, which is published in February, May, August, and November, circulates to approximately 4,000 members and libraries in the United States and foreign countries. The Journal focuses on southern history, broadly interpreted. Issues contain scholarly articles, historical notes, book reviews, and news of historical interest.

Photos and Other Images Related to Georgia History
This is a collection of photos and portraits on Georgia history from the Civil War to the present. It includes postcards, paintings and engravings.

South Carolina Historical Society
This is the South Carolina Historical Society's web site of history and genealogy. The South Carolina Historical Society (SCHS) is a private, non-profit membership-driven organization founded in 1855.

The Southern Historical Association
The Southern Historical Association was organized November 2, 1934. Its objectives are the promotion of interest and research in southern history, the collection and preservation of the South's historical records, and the encouragement of state and local historical societies in the South. As a secondary purpose the Association fosters the teaching and study of all areas of history in the South.

UNC Libraries: Local History Sources Collection
The North Carolina Collection has materials on each the state's 100 counties. The collection attempts to acquire every published regional, county, and town history for North Carolina. The NCC also collects family histories, architectural guides, photographs, maps, city directories and phone books, and some published government records.

Virginia Historical Society
The Virginia Historical Society, the Center for Virginia History, collects, preserves, and interprets the commonwealth's past for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations. With an extensive library, museum, and archive, the Virginia Historical Society serves as the commonwealth's museum for state history.
