Ethel Illges Woodruff Fellowship in Southern History

Awarded to a master’s student who shows outstanding academic promise and is dedicated to the study of Southern history.

Mrs. Ethel Illges Woodruff, a native of Columbus, Georgia, was keenly interested in the history of Georgia, eastern Alabama and the Chattahoochee Valley.  This fellowship in honor of Mrs. Woodruff was established in 1995 in the Department of History at Georgia State University by the J.W. and Ethel I. Woodruff Foundation of Columbus.

The Ethel Illges Woodruff Fellowship is the first endowed graduate fellowship in the Department of History.  The challenging programs and opportunities offered by the master's program in history ensure that the Ethel Illges Woodruff Fellow will be well prepared to make a contribution to the preservation and interpretation of the history of the region and the state of Georgia.
