2014 Dale Somers Memorial Lecture

Save the date! The Department of History is pleased to announce that Johns Hopkins University's Dr. Philip Morgan will deliver the 2014 Dale Somers Memorial Lecture. This event will be on Friday April 4, 2014 at 2pm in 929 Langdale Hall (formerly General Classroom Building). The title of Dr. Morgan's talk will be Caribbean Slavery.

Primarily an Early American Historian, Dr. Morgan also has subsidiary interests in African-American history and the study of the Atlantic World. His publications include Colonial Chesapeake Society (1988), Strangers within the Realm: Cultural Margins of the First British Empire (1991), Cultivation and Culture: Work and the Shaping of Afro-American Culture in the Americas (1993), and Slave Counterpoint: Black Culture in the Eighteenth-Century Chesapeake and Lowcountry (1998).
