Jared Poley earned his doctorate at UCLA under the guidance of the great David Sabean. His teaching and research focuses on modern cultural and intellectual history with a focus on Europe and its connections with the world. His research interests include religion, sexuality, race, imperialism and postcolonial theory. His book, Decolonization in Germany: Weimar Narratives of Colonial Loss and Foreign Occupation, was published in 2005. He has begun work on a new project which examines the history of greed.
Dr. Poley serves as the Program Director of the 2012 German Studies Association Conference, being held October 4-7 in Milwaukee, WI.
