Life Insurance

Basic & Supplemental Life & Accident Insurance

The University provides $25,000 of basic life insurance on your behalf, at no cost to you. You may purchase at your own cost supplemental basic life insurance through the same program in increments of 1, 2, or 3 times your annual salary. You may also insure your eligible dependents (spouse & children) for $10,000 each. You may apply for this coverage at the time of hire or during annual Benefits Open Enrollment; subsequent acceptance after time of hire is contingent on your providing evidence of insurability.

Additional Voluntary Term Life Insurance

You may also elect to purchase supplemental life insurance offered through CIGNA. This is an optional 5-year term policy. If you apply within 31 days of your employment date, you are guaranteed at least $100,000 of life insurance protection. You may apply for up to $500,000 of coverage; however, coverage beyond $100,000 is subject to acceptance based on your demonstrating evidence of insurability. Your eligible dependents (spouse & children) may also be covered under the plan (spouse or domestic partner up to $150,000; children up to $10,000). You may apply during the annual Benefits Open Enrollment; acceptance is contingent upon providing evidence of insurability.

Supplemental Accident (AD&D) Insurance

Employees under age 70 may purchase supplemental Accident Insurance (also known as Accidental Death & Dismemberment, or AD&D), which pays a benefit in the event of loss of life or limbs resulting from an accident. The coverage includes a hospital benefit, special education benefit, and a permanent total disability benefit. Coverage amounts range from $10,000 to $250,000 (amounts above $150,000 cannot exceed 10 times your salary). You may apply for this coverage at the time of hire or during annual Benefits Open Enrollment without restriction.

Please refer to New Employee Benefit Booklet for more infomation.
