of Technology Commercialization, (Job# 5157) Office of the V.P. for Research Salary Negotiable This position evaluates markets for commercialization of Georgia State University research results and supports the transfer of research to the for-profit sector for purposes of commercialization; identifies and supports industry/university collaborations; supports Intellectual Property development and management for researchers and negotiates technology licenses and research agreements. Key Responsibilities: Marketing/Licensing: Use business acumen, negotiation, and presentation skills to identify, market and license GSU innovations and research capabilities. Identify potential licensees or contracts, prepare informational materials regarding GSU research, innovations, initiate contact, draft and negotiate license agreements. University/Community Service: Educate GSU community and private sector about technology transfer and commercialization, and facilitate interactions between the campus and industry. Work with Deans, Chairs, and Directors to determine technology transfer needs and implement strategies to meet those needs. Conduct presentations to schools and departments regarding academia/business relationships, technology transfer, commercialization, communicate GSU policies on patents, inventions, and copyrights, and participate in local and regional business groups. Disclosures: Encourage and evaluate new innovation disclosures. Collect and evaluate information relating to patent and market feasibility. Recommend whether or not to commercialize disclosures; and, as appropriate, develop plans for effective transfer of technology to industry or a new business venture. Intellectual Property Protection: As appropriate, coordinate the protection of GSU proprietary rights in disclosures via patent, copyright, or trademark. Patent-related responsibilities include searching and reviewing background literature, coordinating communication between attorneys and inventors, monitoring patent applications progress, and managing patent expenses. Professional Development: Participate in professional associations and attend conferences and training classes as appropriate to enhance technology transfer and commercialization expertise. Must have: Bachelor’s degree in physical or biological science, engineering, medicine or a related field; four years of relevant work experience including management and development of intellectual property, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferences: An advanced degree in one of the above-listed areas and experience in the transfer of technology from academia to industry, preferably in the life sciences.
