Position Description: Director of New Student Programs (Job# 5306)

Position Overview:
The Director of New Student Programs works collaboratively within the University community to provide leadership in the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and initiatives for new students and their parents/families that create a welcoming and engaging environment and facilitate their integration into the life of the institution. This position reports to the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students in the Division of Student Services.

Position Responsibilities:
• Researches, develops, implements and cosponsors a variety of programs, activities and/or services designed to facilitate the successful transition of new students into the University community such as summer/fall/spring orientation programs for new freshmen and transfer students and various Welcome Week activities including Freshman Convocation; works collaboratively with students, faculty and staff on a variety of programmatic initiatives designed to increase student interaction, build community, and promote civic engagement.
• Researches, develops and implements programs and services for the parents/families of new and continuing students (e.g., summer/fall/spring orientation programs) including providing administrative leadership and support for all activities and programs of the Georgia State University Parents Association.
• Works collaboratively to develop and periodically update an ongoing departmental strategic plan (including mission, goals, objectives, and learning outcomes) designed to facilitate the creation, implementation, assessment and evaluation of a comprehensive array of relevant new student transition programs and initiatives; creates and maintains an ongoing assessment plan to measure student learning outcomes as well as to ensure the effectiveness and relevance of programmatic efforts.
• Develops, designs, edits and produces all New Student Programs formal external communications (i.e., print publications, webpages, etc.).
• Prepares and manages annual budgets including reviewing and approving all New Student Program expenditures, establishing and monitoring annual revenue projections and developing relevant programmatic funding proposals.
• Manages the daily operations of Office of New Student Programs (i.e., general office coverage, departmental compliance with appropriate policies and procedures and/or legal mandates, office equipment maintenance).
• Provides direct and functional supervision to two full-time staff as well as various student assistants, paraprofessionals and/or interns.
• Serves on appropriate university committees and assists in special projects assigned by the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students or Vice President of Student Services.

Desired Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or other closely related field and 4 years of supervisory/management experience.
• Experience working closely with students from diverse backgrounds in a higher education setting.
• Extensive experience initiating, planning, implementing and evaluating episodic and ongoing new student and parent orientation programmatic efforts.
• Experience working with ongoing parent/family programs (e.g., parents associations).
• Experience developing and implementing strategic planning and outcome-driven assessment efforts.
• Experience working collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff in a wide variety of university committees, departments, and/or student organizations to develop and implement programmatic initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or other closely related field and 4 years of experience.

Compensation:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $41,300 - $50,200
